My love for pottery started in the early 70’s when I took pottery classes at Portland State University. I told myself then that I would get a wheel and kiln so I could make pots at home someday. After many years of working in Portland, I moved to Bend to enjoy life in the sunshine. It wasn't until then that I fulfilled my dream getting a wheel and kiln and began making pots again.I enjoy making all types of pots, especially functional ware such as mugs, bowls, lidded containers, vases and flower pots. Because of the utilitarian nature of my work, I usually high fire so the pots are water tight and dishwasher safe, but I also raku fire for the extraordinary glaze effects and the fun and immediate gratification. I'm proud to be an artist and potter with memberships in the Raku Artists of Central Oregon, the Clay Guild of the Cascades, the Oregon Potter's Association and the Etsy Mud Team. Jolene Cap |
